Summer Scouting: Preparing for Whitetail Season
The Season Starts Now
If you wait until October to start preparing for deer season, you’re already behind. The best Georgia hunters use the summer months to scout, hang cameras, and establish patterns. Here’s how to get ahead.
Trail Cameras
Place your cameras on field edges, water sources, and travel corridors between bedding and feeding areas. We recommend the Moultrie Mobile series — the cell-enabled cameras send photos straight to your phone so you don’t have to disturb the area.
Food Plots
If you have access to private land, now is the time to plant summer food plots. Soybeans and lablab draw deer like magnets through July and August, and the nutritional benefit helps bucks grow bigger racks. Come see us for seed — we carry Whitetail Institute blends that perform well in Georgia clay.
Stand Placement
Once you’ve got camera data, plan your stand locations around prevailing wind patterns. The biggest mistake we see is hunters setting up without considering thermals. Talk to our guides — they’ve been hanging stands in these woods for decades.
Gear Up Early
Don’t wait for the rush. Stop in this summer and we’ll help you get your stands, feeders, and optics dialed in before everyone else remembers the season is coming.
